What Base64 encoder & decoder helps you do
Represent text using ASCII characters for transport or inspect a text-based Base64 value. Base64 is reversible encoding, not encryption.
How to use it
- Choose encode or decode.
- Enter UTF-8 text or standard Base64.
- Copy the result or download a text file.
Input and output example
INPUT
HelloOUTPUT
SGVsbG8=
Supported formats and limits
- Maximum source or encoded input: 1 MiB.
- Supports the standard + / alphabet and = padding. URL-safe Base64 and binary-file decoding are unsupported.
How the result is calculated
Text is encoded as UTF-8 bytes and then standard Base64. Decoding removes whitespace, validates the alphabet and canonical padding, and rejects invalid UTF-8 instead of silently replacing bytes.
Frequently asked questions
Can Base64 protect a password?
No. Anyone can decode it without a key. It is not suitable for protecting secrets.
Why is a decoded value rejected?
The original bytes may not represent UTF-8 text. This text tool does not decode arbitrary binary files.
